Well hello there

Well hello there

The start of Walter & George was a necessary one for me... There was a two year period of my life I reference as “The Long Winter,” some things had been turned upside down and I took time to reconcile them. I was at a stand still without really knowing what to do next. I had spent years hopping from career to career hoping something would keep my interest longer than a few months. With only a semester of college completed and no desire to return I wasn't left with a lot of options. At the beginning of 2014, I turned 27— the same year that W & G came to life. I was in my late twenties working 80 hours a week, barely affording my rent each month. If I think back on where I thought I'd be in my late twenties it definitely wasn't that. I couldn't tell you how long I had wanted something of my own, but I'll be honest and tell you I do best when I am either in charge or have freedom to work independently. So the idea of owning my own company or business has always been appealing. I am very much my father's daughter in that respect. I think I had dreamed of having my own retail store on and off for years, but who has $100k just lying around to spend on something like that. So there I was 27, broke, tired and— once again-- restless. What's a girl to do? Craft I guess. The Christmas before I started Walter & George I had made all of my girl friends Mexican blanket and pleather clutches, they were a hit and a few more people asked if I was going to continue to make them... so I said yeah why the hell not. I got myself a seller's permit and the rest is sort of history. Well kind of. I had been wanting a leather clutch for quite some time but couldn't afford any of the ones that were my taste. I might have been broke but I have always had a taste for some of the finer things in life. So with no money and a want for a leather clutch I took to youtube as any sane human would do. I watched video after video and read forum post after post. I bought a scrap pack of leather and the most basic and inexpensive tools and made my first clutch. Now the rest really is history.

My intention with Walter & George has always been to build community with it and eventually within it. I needed a new community and the one I have found through my business has been one of the most rewarding parts of all this. So here we go... the point of this blog is to help create and cultivate community to bring daily life to you from a variety of places and of course some fun stuff. So I hope you'll join me in this adventure, is there something you want to see or want to be talked about?? Tell us!! I look forward to sharing a little bit of my business and life with you and also share some other incredible peoples lives with you!! --
